What's All the Buzz???

The Enneagram is popping up everywhere!  It has been featured in the Harvard Business Review, mentioned in current novels like "Cutting For Stone", and referred to in various periodicals such as Psychology Today and Time magazine.  The Enneagram is the subject of numerous best-selling books.  It is being used in business organizations to increase effectiveness and improve relations as well as in individual and family therapy to help people better understand themselves and others.  Like I said...it's everywhere!

But just what IS the Enneagram?

The word enneagram comes from 2 Greek words.  Ennea meaning nine and gramma which means something written or drawn/a model.  Simply put, the Enneagram is nine points on a circle.

The points represent 9 personality types each with its own world view, own unique way of communicating, problem solving and relating.  Each Type also has unique gifts and stumbling blocks.  While they have much in common, each Type has its own set of behaviors and attitudes, reactions and defenses.  Each Type has its own Personality.  It is as if we all speak nine different languages.  Imagine how much better our families, our relationships, our business encounters, our churches and communities and even our politics would be if we could find a way to clearly understand one another's language!

The Enneagram is just such a tool.  It helps us see through more than our own lens and in doing so, our ability for understanding and compassion grows.  This dynamic system can improve communication, enhance relationships and unlock the secrets to why we behave the way we do.
